Defibrillators

One of the most distressing and downright dangerous aspects of man-made electromagnetic radiation is its ability to upset the beating of the heart. When the heart's electrical rhythm is disrupted atrial fibrillation or tachycardia can result and the heart's ability to pump blood in a co-ordinated fashion is lost.

Such a disorganised and chaotic state may spontaneously correct itself however if the heart is unable to restore its muscular synchronisation within a few minutes, minimal blood flow will starve not only the brain but the heart as well.

Unless order is swiftly restored, the person dies.

Defibrillators are made to stop the heart – dead, using a single powerful electric shock. The expectation is that once the heart's ineffectual tremblings are stopped, its two internal pacemakers (SA & AV nodes) will spontaneously restore proper synchronised function and normal blood flow will resume.

Sadly that is not always the case.

The heart (and the brain) are controlled by very small signals making both susceptible to even low-level pulsed electromagnetic radiation. Rather than address the effects of electro-pollution and particularly the rise in atrial fibrillation and tachycardia, a technological fix that can be sold to communities across the world is now being rolled-out.

As our world becomes more saturated with always-on, pulsed digital, microwave radiation from Tetra / 2G / 3G / 4G-ESN / 5G masts, the Internet of Things (IoT) and the thousands of transmitting low earth satellites presently being deployed, quick access to a defibrillator may become crucial to survival.

In the meantime, routinely minimising cumulative in-home/at-work/in-car electromagnetic exposure may lessen the chance of such life-threatening traumas happening to you or your loved ones.

Christmas - A Special Peril For The EHS #2_1

The excitement of Christmas, with its prospect of wonderful new electronic gadgets, holds very real fears for those already struggling to cope with current levels of  Electrosmog (Wireless / Electromagnetic Radiation).
Family members and neighbours may delight in their new wireless devices but their joy may be offset by those around them who are already struggling to cope with today’s elevated levels of EMR millions of times higher than have ever been.

Over the festive season each year wireless levels ramp up another notch in an ever increasing trend. A whole new wave of mobile / wireless devices is unleashed upon the world at Christmastime and eagerly awaited by an unsuspecting and poorly informed public.
A cordless phone for Grandma, a mobile phone for little Wayne, a tablet computer for Claire, an xBox, Wii or DS for Chet, a new wireless laptop for mum, a new smart phone for dad and wireless printer, wireless surround-sound and a giant screen smart-TV for the whole family to share…
As each home becomes ever more a wireless hot-spot, what of the people inside or nearby who cannot tolerate the invisible electro-pollution pumped out?
The way things stand, it is just too bad. Anyone destroyed by EMR has no legal recourse and nowhere to go. So in this season of ‘Goodwill to all men’ ask yourself whether your freedom to enjoy your new wireless toy comes at someone else’s expense?

In case you are amongst the band of EMR sceptics, the answer is, it almost certainly does but you are unlikely to notice. All the land has been invaded and the EMF Refugees are in retreat. They have been forced to leave their lives and homes, jobs and families behind and salvage whatever they can as their world  turns toxic.
During the holiday season you may be blasted by more wireless devices than you can even dream of. Returning to work, school or college in the New Year, some people will be forced to live with a new or uprated wireless system, quietly installed during the shutdown. If this applies to you and proves too much for your body to take, to whom would you turn?  Perhaps it is not ‘wireless’ per se but the smart-meters which are being rolled out everywhere that will cause your tolerance to be exceeded.

It all adds up, it is all cumulative exposure. Should you be concerned? Be careful what you wish for this Christmas. It might have a sting in its tail. Perhaps you’ll get away with it. Perhaps you won’t.

Where Would We All Be Without Electricity?

Where would we all be if it were not for the hard work of the electricity companies? The answer is clear. We would all be in a very sorry state, our lives and prospects immeasurably diminished. For some however, the EHS, their lives have been and continue to be both improved and blighted by electromagnetism.

The electrical power industries surely would not want their linesman's lives jeopardised any more than they have to be. It may be in their best interests to encourage research into the how and why of Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity - EHS. By selecting-out job applicants who may be predisposed to succumb to EHS they will not only be doing applicants a service but will be acting responsibly and with due diligence. They will also not be squandering their training and safety budgets on workers who may ultimately be unable to perform the dangerous roles for which they have been prepared. Of course there are occupational hazards involved in the work of electricity supply, generation and distribution. That in itself should not cause those involved concern as it is self-evident that there are risks associated with electromagnetism, as indeed there are around most of the powerful industrial forces that now enhance our lives.

But, can running high-voltage cables over people's houses still be justified in a fair and decent society, where treating others as one would wish to be treated is something to which we can all aspire?

Criticism of Distribution Network Operators may not be entirely fair as a lot of the infrastructure is a legacy of times past when questioning the adequacy of electricity safeguards was considered unpatriotic. The less obvious dangers were glossed-over then. Today, undue influence on policies and the media ensure the effects are just as invisible. So too is the suffering of those living with the consequences and it will remain invisible as long as denial and ignorance prevail in society.

Incredibly, new houses are still being built under power lines, a practice the Government continues to allow as it prevaricates year after year, allowing risks to perpetuate, generation after generation.

Where, in all of this, are the people we elected to represent us? Where is the honour and integrity amongst civil servants and industry members whose safeguards, we the people, demand adequately protect workers and all members of British society?
Are those struck down by EHS just so much collateral damage? Are the injustices they endure merely so much water to be callously shrugged off the backs of those who supposedly took on the role of society’s protectors?

You may feel this issue does not affect you or anyone you care about. Sufferers of EHS have had this functional impairment bestowed upon them slowly, over time or suddenly, overnight. To-date there is no certain remedy for EHS except avoidance of all things electrical. Be cautious if you dismiss the suffering of the EHS out-of-hand. In the future, you too could find yourself an unwilling pioneer and come to realise for better or worse, there is no way back to the life you know now.

EMR / Electro-Smog Hygiene

Adopting a few simple practices aimed at living more safely with electro-smog does not need to be onerous. As better understanding evolves, investing in a little EMR precaution today may pay dividends in the future.
No Need To Be Afraid:
Can you imagine how scary it must have been back in the 19th century when people first learned that they lived in a soup of pathogens, bacteria, moulds and viruses which they could not see and which had the potential to make them very ill or kill them? Of course many germs can and always could kill people but it usually required their immune systems to have been compromised first. From the emerging understanding that followed, people learned good hygiene and how to incorporate sanitation into their lives. Many generations have since come to terms with and learned to coexist with these little killers and now we expect cleanliness to be a normal part of everyday life.
A Very Short History of Hygiene:
Brushing one's teeth was not common practice in Europe until the end of the 17th century. Washing hands between patients did not gain acceptance amongst doctors until the late 1860’s. The benefits, indeed the importance of these things are now taken for granted and rarely given a second thought by most people as we have learned to simply incorporate good practice into our daily routines.
Jam Today, Electro-Smog Tomorrow:
If you spill jam on the floor you would normally just clean it up. You understand jam and its properties and you know how to deal with it and keep it in its place (on the toast). EMR is a bit like jam. It's amazing and does some magic things, but in the wrong places it's bad! Unlike jam, EMR is pretty much bad any time it is near us. Like the bacteria and mould that swirl in the air all around us, EMR is invisible, tasteless, silent and you can't feel it. Well at least most people can't feel it, but some, the EHS can, and do.
Handling The Invisible:
How do we deal with something as miniscule and invisible as bacteria? It is quite easy. We assume it is everywhere and especially on any surface we have not just cleaned. So when your toast and jam lands face down on the floor, you assume it to be contaminated and throw it away. It's the same with EMR. If it has a plug on it or a battery in it you can assume it is giving out some EMR, at levels and frequencies which may be toxic.
How Close is Too Close?:
In domestic settings it is usual that 1.5 - 2.0 metres away from an operating electrical device is far enough to be precautionary. But what about appliances like a boiler near the kitchen sink? If it is not possible to achieve the distance, then turn the device off. In the case of the boiler, if you can do neither then perhaps you would be better off buying a dishwasher or using water from a hot water tank. If you really cannot do anything about your exposure, then measuring to find hotspots or define zones-of-influence can indicate safer distances.
What about laptops and other devices typically used close to the body?
A laptop on the lap is like playing with broken glass. You might get away with it but it is plain stupid. As with glass, you may not notice the sharp little shards penetrating your skin until later. They are so hard to get out we know its better not to take the chance of them getting in, in the first place. The multiple types of electro-smog that come out of laptop computers impact everything around them, just like broken glass. Far better to use one on a table and then only for a limited time.
Demonstrating the levels and types of electro-smog that come out of many hand-held devices convinces most people of the wisdom of not putting them close to their bodies.
If you are, at some point in the future, like the EHS today, reluctantly obliged to accept the consequences of perhaps a reckless or uninformed attitude to the biological effects of virtually constant immersion in EMR, it may be too late.
Responsibility for the choices you make now, and the hazards you accept into your life in the future, are yours because nobody else has any idea of your electro-smog exposure. If history is anything to go by, as with Asbestos, Thalidomide, Lead and a host of other previously-thought-to-be-safe substances, electro-smog may turn out to be the single most significant factor in the Diseases of the Modern Age; Cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Leukaemia, Heart Disease and debilitating conditions such as ME, headaches, tinnitus, poor sleep, cataracts, obesity and depression to name but a few.
It is not so much that electro-smog is believed to ‘cause’ these ailments, it is perhaps more likely that electro-smog may compromise the body’s natural abilities to deal with them.

What You Should Know About Smart-Meters

Those who govern us have decreed that smart-meters are to be installed in every home and workplace during the next few years. The meters will transmit intelligence information about how much, when and what devices we are using virtually instantaneously. In a few short years they will provide real-time monitoring of everyone’s activities through electricity, gas and water use to be stored effectively forever. It is planned to transmit the data wirelessly via pulsed digital microwaves to be picked up by a 'Hub' or ‘Concentrator’ in a Street Cabinet, a Neighbour’s House or on a mobile phone or other Mast. It will then be passed on to a new central Data and Communications Company. Some places have already had smart-meters installed* but you might not know because the radio transmitters on them are presently sleeping until awakened by an activation signal.

The world is sleepwalking into an Orwellian reality!

New Canadian Exposee Smart-Meter Film

Smart-meters raise serious concerns about privacy, security and health. If the installation of a smart-meter causes your tolerable lifetime radiation dose (ionising and non-ionising) to be exceeded you may no longer be able to be near common everyday devices such as lights, TVs, computers, Wi-Fi or for that matter mobile phones, cars and public transport. Consider if you will for a moment what that means for those already EHS and what that would mean for you, your prospects, lifestyle and liberty and that of your children.
Added 28 Sept 2012
Listen to Dr Dietrich Klinghardt He makes a lot of sense.

Because of the worldwide proliferation of other wireless devices it is going to be very difficult to absolutely link adverse health effects to smart-meters. Nevertheless millions of ‘smart devices’ have already been installed around the world and it is now becoming clear that people’s health and wellbeing can be seriously compromised by exposure to these and other digital wireless technologies.

HAN - Home Area Network

The new meters will also support two-way wireless communications inside and around your home via a HAN. Many devices and appliances are now coming with the HAN system already enabled and every few minutes they check to see if you have had a smart-meter installed. Their radio links are battery powered (lasting 10 - 15 years) and cannot be disabled. Once a smart-meter is installed in your home all devices that have been bought in the last few years that are HAN enabled will lock-on to it and start to generate regular streams of data about your usage that will be sent back and forth to the utility companies and whoever else has access to the data. The HAN can also wirelessly drive a usage monitor and these handy displays are presently being given away by utilities in order to get wireless smart-meter technologies established inside people’s homes.

* Offers of cash incentives or cheaper electricity, gas or water may tempt some home owners and particularly landlords to agree to the installation of a ‘Concentrator’ in their utility cupboards or they may simply not be told they are getting a smart-meter. The Concentrator’s purpose is to act as a radio communications hub for up to 100 other local smart-meters. After a few days, a  few months, a year, a decade, if and when residents and neighbours start experiencing ill-health caused by the unremitting signals to and from smart-meters and concentrators how will they know the cause and to whom are they going to turn?

This infrastructure is currently rolling-out across the developed world enabling wireless smart-meters and wireless-broadband to reach into even the remotest areas flooding what electrosmog-free areas still remain with the most ubiquitous pollutant now on the planet.
The vast amounts of data generated every few seconds by up to 3 smart-meters in all 22 million UK homes and all other buildings and elsewhere will be a massive goldmine of very detailed real-time information. It will need a new network of Data Superhighways to collect and deliver it to Government and buyers. Next time you hear of some ‘communications infrastructure’ project taking place or are told that ‘your meter needs changing’ be alert to what that really means.

Smart-meter projects are underway now. This industry-provided map shows some of them:

Watch this video on smart-meters. Its an eye opener!

Readers will doubtless be reassured to hear that according to The Department of Energy and Climate Change, Whitehall London January 2012 "...it will not be an offence for householders to refuse to accept a smart meter and we have made it clear that we do not expect suppliers to seek an entry warrant simply to fit smart metering equipment."
An 'Entry Warrant' - what the hell is that? ...and what if the utility 'stormtroopers' should decide forced entry is indeed warranted! Is the sanctity of our homes now only protected by a 'we do not expect'?
In their justification for summarily stripping us of our domestic privacy and irradiating us in our homes using wireless the DECC defer to the ICNIRP recommendations which were never designed to take into account the long-term chronic low-level microwave exposure to which everyone is already subjected. The American Federal Communications Commission - FCC also defer to these irrelevant industry-driven guidelines but the Environmental Protection Agency - EPA, to their credit, clearly stated in 2002 "...[ICNIRP/FCC/IEEE voluntary guidelines] do not apply to chronic, nonthermal exposure situations." Furthermore they go on to say "...the generalisation by many that the guidelines protect human beings from harm by any or all mechanisms is not justified."
Safety recommendations and regulations for non-thermal non-ionising radio frequency radiation [microwaves] around the world remain unfit for purpose and are largely as they were in 2002. In the meantime wireless use has exploded.
Those we have trusted to ensure our continuing protection in a rapidly changing and increasingly technological world are not doing an adequate job. Shame on them.
Jerry Day spells it out in his very concise video and deals the dirt on smart-meters in a calm and rational manner.

Apart from the serious privacy issues there are other ways of communicating (Fibre, cable, Power Line Communications - PLC). The wireless companies have embarked on a new 'land-grab' and are fighting for market share. They are upgrading their mobile infrastructure in preparation so that it will be uneconomic for others to enter the marketplace.

Wireless is set to become the de facto standard.

When they switch it on and you cannot sleep because the burning, the tinnitus and the headaches have gotten too bad, if you can still think straight through all of that, to whom are you going to turn?

Want To Move But Obliged To Stay?

The current climate of economic uncertainty is paralysing people. Caught between falling house prices and the needs of growing families, many people are deciding to rent or to stay put. Making better use of the space you already have makes good green sense, and ‘better the devil you know‘ as they say. But staying put may not be without its own perils. How well do you actually know the place where you and your loved-ones are living? Knowing relies on sufficient information and the quality of its interpretation through knowledge and experience. If your senses don’t alert you, chances are you will just carry on, blissfully unaware of the potential spectres with which you are cohabiting.

Electromagnetism, or more accurately, Electrosmog or as it is known, e-smog is the uncontrolled fallout from society’s use of wireless and other electric and electronic technologies. It is all around us - at ever increasing levels. E-smog, just like other forms of pollution, makes some people unwell. To many it may be an irrelevance but to those who are particularly vulnerable, its invisible and silently sinister influence can be devastating. To the young, the frail, the weak and the infirm, e-smog can sound their death-knell, and sooner rather than later. Many modern illnesses, of which the public are regrettably all too aware - Cancer, Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Leukaemia and many others that medical science seems unable to provide the causes to are being increasingly linked to exposure to e-smog. Importantly, loss of sleep quality, whilst perhaps not being a truly medical condition in its own right can nonetheless have a devastating impact on people’s lives.

So before you decide to convert the loft or the cabin at the end of the garden into extra living space for your growing family, make sure you fully understand the implications of what you are about to do. Loft and attic conversions, which are frequently inhabited by the youngest members of the family, can expose people to far higher levels of microwave radio radiation than levels experienced nearer the ground, by those surrounded by somewhat better shielding bricks and mortar.

Loft and attic conversions are often above the surrounding roofline and usually made of lightweight wooden structures. Youngsters whose bedrooms are up there are likely to receive the highest daily Electrosmog dose of any family member. Give them a mobile or cordless phone and a wireless laptop computer or games console and their exposure ratchets up a couple more notches. If their school also has a wireless network, chances are there will be few moments in any day when they are not being bombarded by a significant amount of life-threatening Electrosmog.

Electrosmog, just like sunlight is now understood to be cumulative over a person’s lifetime. In other words, you can only take so much of it during your life before it comes back to bite you.

Have you exceeded your safe lifetime dose yet?

Trouble & Strife - Electromagnetic Diet

Is your wife giving you trouble? Is she rarely happy and giving you grief because of it? Could it be that its not really you that she's upset with but your Wife-i that's causing her distress?
You may not realise it, and nor may she, but WiFi along with many other sources of microwave radiation is today making some peoples* lives miserable.

Wireless keyboards and mice, mobiles, cordless phones, alarm systems, low energy and fluorescent lights, the list goes on and on. There are now so many sources of electromagnetic radiation in our normal working and living environments that some people can no longer cope. People deal with the rise in levels of this environmental stressor in many different ways. Lethargy, alcoholism, drugs, other addictions, outburst of anger and in any number of other unpleasant and often self-destructive ways.

"Oh," you might say, "you can't blame all society's ills on electromagnetic exposure."

Maybe not, but until we know how and why uncontrolled Electrosmog makes some people ill, nobody can know its not a cause or a significant co-factor.
So before you give up on an unsatisfactory marriage, take a look at your own and your wife's daily electromagnetic diet and ask yourself whether sinister, silent, ubiquitous Electrosmog isn't quietly sucking the joy out of your lives.

Worried About Electrosmog. What Can You Do?

Firstly, DON'T PANIC! Whatever's out there, you are probably not at much greater risk today than you were yesterday. So take a couple of deep breaths and decide if you are really ready to look at your relationship with electromagnetism and the technologies that produce the toxic cloud of Electrosmog in which we all now live.
The planet cannot support upwards of 7 billion people without the power of electricity. Every time you turn on the tap, the water has to have been pumped from somewhere, never mind what happens to it afterwards. Every time you turn on a light, the power has had to come from somewhere. Of course greener ways of generating electricity are emerging but not very much is being done about the pollution caused by electromagnetism at its point of use. Whenever a household appliance is used, a cloud of Electrosmog is produced around it. Whenever a mobile or cordless is used, it manufactures Electrosmog which people then immerse their heads in!
Electrosmog is produced by; power devices - food processors, washing machines, power tools; communications devices - mobile & cordless phones and their base stations and infrastructure - overhead and underground cables and pylons and from household wiring. It is also found in vehicles and in practical terms there are very few occasions where the average person is not subjected to exposure from Electrosmog.
So here's what you can actually do right now:
1. TURN OFF ALL THE POWER AT NIGHT. Where you sleep should be as electromagnetically benign as possible. Electrosmog is TOXIC just like any other environmental pollutant with which we come into daily contact. Think of it like exhaust fumes.
2. REDUCE YOUR TOTAL TOXIC BURDEN. Look at your lifestyle and eating habits and seek ways to improve your health by reducing the total number of toxins and their amounts (i.e. the number and strengths of exposures) that your body has to deal with.
3. ELIMINATE WIRELESS/CORDLESS DEVICES - You may not be able to control your exposure outside, but you can not add to it inside. Ditch the DECT, throw away the microwave.
4. ADD DISTANCE BETWEEN YOU AND ANY OPERATING ELECTRICAL DEVICES - Magnetic flux is a form of Electrosmog for which there is little protection other than distance. Turn on household appliances and move away. Don't stay in the kitchen when devices are on. Keep as far away from computers/screens/keyboards etc as you are able.
5. EDUCATE YOURSELF - search the Internet, join groups such as eSens on Yahoo. Read The Powerwatch Handbook - Piatkus Publishing.
6. TALK TO YOUR NEIGHBOURS - and try to get them to reduce their wireless use and thus the amount of Electrosmog they are effectively lobbing over the fence at you. If you need to buy them a new corded phone to get them to give up their DECT cordless, then consider it money well spent. If they simply won't give up their cordless phone convenience, buy them a new Orchid LR which switches off when not in use.
... and finally, checkout blogs like this one aimed at safer relationships with electromagnetism, relationships that support healthy and productive lives.

Worried by Your Children’s Ever Increasing Electrosmog Exposure?

The last few years have seen tremendous rises in the levels of man-made electrical pollution (Electrosmog). From mobile phones to WiFi, from games consoles to medical and dental x-rays, all are sources of electromagnetic exposure. Like sunshine, it is now becoming clear that our bodies are only able to tolerate so much of it over our lifetimes. The younger exposure starts, the sooner adverse side effects are likely to become apparent. From sleeplessness to depression, tinnitus to diabetes, an increasing number of medical conditions are now being linked to electromagnetic pollution exposure (Electrosmog). Digital TV and radio, microwave ovens, Bluetooth devices, mobile phones, DECT cordless phones, WiFi, WLAN, WiMAX and on and on. One thing you can do to limit your children’s exposure, especially at night when it is the body’s time to rest and repair, is to “Ditch the DECT” and never use a wireless baby monitor.

FAQs 1 - 17

The following list of FAQ’s is compiled from questions raised at various Electric Forester talks, presentations and workshops since 2006.

1. Why do people who are Electromagnetically HyperSensitive go on about mobile phones? After all, practically everyone has one, so what’s the big deal? The emissions from mobile and cordless phones and their associated base stations are a major problem for many EHS. It is because mobile phones and cordless devices are now everywhere that their lives are so restricted. It is not simply about choice. Being within range of mobile phones and base stations makes them ill.

2. But most people aren’t affected, right? Most people (that is more than half) do not seem to be affected, as far as they are aware, but that does not mean that they are entirely unaffected. The more we learn about people who have become EHS, the more it becomes plain that for some people at least, once they have become sensitized by one form of electromagnetism through perhaps heavy or excessive mobile phone use, they become more likely to develop similar symptoms caused by exposure to other forms of electromagnetism, with the consequent disruption to their lives such sensitivities entail.

3. Can’t such people be cured? It’s not so much a question of a cure as that implies an illness and the EHS are not sick. It’s a bit like saying to a person who lives next door to a motorway ‘we can cure the noise in your head if you agree to wear these ear defenders all the time’. Likewise we could say we’ll cure your allergy to cigarette smoke by getting you to wear a respirator whenever you go out in public. Clearly such approaches are disingenuous to those people whose lives are curtailed by the activities of others.

4. How is people’s exposure monitored? How can I find out how exposed I am and make informed judgments about risk? As people go about their daily business, environmental exposure monitoring is extremely difficult. Imagine trying to record a person’s sunshine exposure while they are on holiday. With sunshine, in practice our skin does the job for us and lets us know in no uncertain fashion if we are over-doing it. And its not just overall or average exposure that counts. Anyone who’s ever had the backs of their knees sunburnt will know that some surprisingly small parts of our bodies are highly susceptible to electromagnetic radiation, of which sunshine is but one part.

5. What sort of people develop EHS? Am I at risk? As more and more people discover that they are electrically sensitive (ES), simultaneously the uses to which electromagnetism can be put are proliferating as never before. The result is that unless people who become ES take action to manage their EM exposure, they are at increased risk of developing very much more inconvenient and debilitating EHS. Despite the multi-factorial, multi-disciplinary nature of the problem, some useful deductions can be made by simply listening to EHS sufferer’s stories. Similar themes crop up time and again and it is from these first-hand testimonies (commonly dismissed as anecdotal or hearsay) that the following partial list is drawn: History of:
Electric shock/lightning strike or ‘splash’
Chemical overload, MCS, Allergy, Food/Chemical Intolerance
Non Invasive Brain Trauma/Concussion
Trauma/Limb Fracture implies X-rays

6. Surely, with wireless, WLAN, WiFi, WiMAX, DECT cordless and even low energy bulbs now everywhere, there are many places that EHS cannot go? Yes that is increasingly true. They may be able to tolerate say 20 minutes in a supermarket but have to walk out if someone else in the checkout queue gets on their mobile phone. It is very difficult in practice. If the EHS exceed their tolerance, their health may be compromised for hours, days or even weeks afterwards. Consequently their options are often severely curtailed and this is one of the reasons that EHS people are often not noticed – because they go about their business when there are few people (and mobiles) about.

7. But surely, if they could put up with it, they’d be able to have a much more normal life? It’s a bit like telling a person who is already suffering the effects of sunstroke (nausea, burning red skin, general feeling of being unwell) that a bit longer in the sun can’t hurt them, after all, look at all these other people sunbathing quite happily.

8. Are some people naturally more at risk? It is not surprising that amongst the 6,500 million people on the planet today, some have greater tolerance to environmental stressors than others. Ginger haired people may, for example, be more readily affected by the sun. There is no question of them being ‘cured’, for they are not sick. Nevertheless, they are able to manage their exposure and lead normal lives, unlike the EHS when exposed to man-made electromagnetic radiation (Electrosmog) which they cannot see and cannot control.

9. Why are more people experiencing EHS symptoms now when electricity and wireless have been around for over 100 years? Two things have changed: Firstly, we are all surrounded by more electricity and electrical devices than ever before and for a much greater proportion of our lives; Secondly, much of the Electrosmog which surrounds us is digital. Digital signals are completely unheard of in nature. They are an entirely man-made phenomenon, one which our bodies have not grown up to tolerate.

10. What’s the difference between Analogue and Digital? The old analogue systems used curved (Sine) waves to carry information. There were limits as to how much information could be passed and it was subject to interference. Modern digital systems use stepped (Square) waves which are much easier for electronics to distinguish (partly because there is nothing like them in the natural environment).

11. How is it that digital signals can transmit say speech, which is analogue, using only 0’s and 1’s? Each part of the audio waveform is analyzed and given a numeric value. The number is converted into binary (0’s & 1’s) and transmitted using the 0’s and 1’s of the digital waveform. The higher the frequency used the more information can be carried. That’s why WiFi which started off at 2.4 GHz is now available at 5.8 GHz with consequently higher data rates. At the receiving end, the process is reversed and speech reproduced. Digital allows signals to be chopped up and multiple messages to be sent along the same path at the same time. That’s how broadband and phone lines can share the same path simultaneously.

12. I still don’t understand binary/digital and all those noughts and one’s. For example, a decimal number such as 1152 is made up of 1 x 10^3 + 1 x 10^2 + 5 x 10^1 + 2 x 10^0. The position of each number tells you how many 10’s it needs to be multiplied by: In binary (to the base 2 instead of to the base 10) the position of each digit is likewise important. 1152 would be written: 1 x 2 ^10 (i.e. 1024) + 0 x 2 ^9 + 0 x 2^8 + 1x 2^7 (i.e. 128) + 0 x 2^6 + 0 x 2^5 etc. or 10010000000.

13. Why has this got anything to do with EHS? It seems that some people’s cells are able to perceive these new pulsed digital radio waves - microwaves that penetrate the skin, unlike the older AM/FM frequencies we are familiar with. Because the frequencies, pulses and power densities are similar to those used by the body for self-regulation, cells don’t know how to behave. Any kind of disorder within the body’s cells or their regulatory systems can lead to all manner of unforeseen consequences, not least of them diseases, particularly cancer.

14. Are there other kinds of consequences we should be looking out for? We are only now learning about some of them, and for many the links to electromagnetic exposures have not been universally agreed. Those we have good reason to suspect include Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, Leukaemia, Diabetes and many others. In time, many of todays poorly understood diseases will be associated with EMF exposure. We do not yet understand the links let alone the mechanisms by which they are connected but it seems the relationship we have enjoyed with electromagnetism has dismissed some of the dangers, dangers that are only now becoming apparent.

15. So what should I do if I am concerned for my own health and that of the people I care about? We now know that for some, electromagnetism (in many of its forms – electric, magnetic, electromagnetic etc.) has dangers of which we have previously been unaware. Given that we are still learning about the whys and the wherefores of ElectroMagnetic Force (EMF)’s amazing capabilities and its biological consequences, it makes sense to minimize EMF exposure wherever it occurs. Thus adopting an ALARA policy – As Low As Reasonably Achievable is consistent with the known science and is in line with the UK Government’s advice to adopt a precautionary approach.

16. Why doesn’t industry make people more aware of the dangers that electromagnetism poses for some people? Despite industry’s encouragement for us to make use of all things electrical, electrical energy inherently produces potentially harmful emissions during transmission and at point of use (Electrosmog). During the course of a normal day we are often subjected to very many EMF sources and there is little desire amongst suppliers and regulators to minimise such emissions or to educate users in minimizing exposure. Because it is society’s collective responsibility, it seems nobody is responsible.

17. Are some types of appliance worse than others? Magnetic field emissions from household appliances are often linked to how much power they use. Thus an immersion heater is likely to produce more Electrosmog than an ordinary light bulb. But its often not that simple. Electrosmog includes radio emissions and Low Energy (LE) light bulbs give off more Electrosmog than ordinary incandescent bulbs. It’s difficult to be truly green.
