Christmas - A Special Peril For The EHS #2_1

The excitement of Christmas, with its prospect of wonderful new electronic gadgets, holds very real fears for those already struggling to cope with current levels of  Electrosmog (Wireless / Electromagnetic Radiation).
Family members and neighbours may delight in their new wireless devices but their joy may be offset by those around them who are already struggling to cope with today’s elevated levels of EMR millions of times higher than have ever been.

Over the festive season each year wireless levels ramp up another notch in an ever increasing trend. A whole new wave of mobile / wireless devices is unleashed upon the world at Christmastime and eagerly awaited by an unsuspecting and poorly informed public.
A cordless phone for Grandma, a mobile phone for little Wayne, a tablet computer for Claire, an xBox, Wii or DS for Chet, a new wireless laptop for mum, a new smart phone for dad and wireless printer, wireless surround-sound and a giant screen smart-TV for the whole family to share…
As each home becomes ever more a wireless hot-spot, what of the people inside or nearby who cannot tolerate the invisible electro-pollution pumped out?
The way things stand, it is just too bad. Anyone destroyed by EMR has no legal recourse and nowhere to go. So in this season of ‘Goodwill to all men’ ask yourself whether your freedom to enjoy your new wireless toy comes at someone else’s expense?

In case you are amongst the band of EMR sceptics, the answer is, it almost certainly does but you are unlikely to notice. All the land has been invaded and the EMF Refugees are in retreat. They have been forced to leave their lives and homes, jobs and families behind and salvage whatever they can as their world  turns toxic.
During the holiday season you may be blasted by more wireless devices than you can even dream of. Returning to work, school or college in the New Year, some people will be forced to live with a new or uprated wireless system, quietly installed during the shutdown. If this applies to you and proves too much for your body to take, to whom would you turn?  Perhaps it is not ‘wireless’ per se but the smart-meters which are being rolled out everywhere that will cause your tolerance to be exceeded.

It all adds up, it is all cumulative exposure. Should you be concerned? Be careful what you wish for this Christmas. It might have a sting in its tail. Perhaps you’ll get away with it. Perhaps you won’t.

Disabling Wireless (on Windows Computers)

When computers and peripherals are switched on, installed wireless network adaptors typically start searching for suitable signals within 60 seconds. They tend to search for networks anytime power is supplied to them, even if they have been disabled in Software.

To temporarily disable wireless capability via software, computers may make use of a Function (Fn) key, usually blue, and the F2 Function button. Multiple presses of F2 (or whichever key has the wireless icon on it) while pressing the Function (Fn) key will typically step through the wireless options: Wireless LAN, WLAN & Bluetooth, Bluetooth, All Wireless Off.

Turning All Wireless Off should be done routinely when wireless is not required to reduce exposure of those nearby to microwave (RF) electrosmog and to save battery life. To minimise exposure further, computers should have their wireless adaptor(s) permanently removed or have their wireless adapters also disabled in ‘Hardware’. The latter typically involves disabling the device driver via Control Panel.

Disabling Wireless in Hardware:
(Windows XP. Similar in Windows 7)

Left Click Start
Control Panel
System
Hardware
Device Manager
Network adaptors - select wireless adaptor (802.11b/g/n Bluetooth)
Right Click Disable
Left Click to Accept

BT Home Hubs (V2.0) and others that incorporate a Cordless (DECT) Phone Base Station may not allow the cordless transmitter to be turned off. Upon representation, BT may be willing to substitute a v3.0 which does support this feature if, for example a v2.0 ‘no longer works’ or if the user states that they cannot tolerate it due to ‘Electro-Sensitivity’. BT FON routers as supplied now default to opt-in so straight out of the box your home will become a wireless hot-spot.

To minimise wireless exposure to everyone in the vicinity (typically a 300 metre radius) LAN 10/100 network cables should be used instead. Local Area Network (LAN) cables enable Internet connections to be shared between computers and other LAN enabled devices using simple inexpensive plugged-in Ethernet Mini-Hubs or Switches. They are typically a faster and more secure way of interconnecting computers and accessing the Internet.

Similarly, peripherals such as printers may also be wirelessly enabled and should be hard wired (via a USB port) and their wireless capabilities disabled. Check Operating Manuals for how that can be achieved as many now default to wireless or are programmed to require wireless to be enabled to access some features and upgrades.

ADSL Filters - An Easy Mistake (Links Updated)

High-speed Internet (Broadband) is now routinely provided in the UK over telephone wires to most areas. As a result, adjoining wires in the cable and on telegraph poles pick up the signal by induction or capacitative coupling and carry it to all telephones in the neighborhood. Consequently, all domestic phone sockets in the UK should now be fitted with an Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) Filter to remove these extraneous signals, whether or not broadband service is provided to the property in question.

ADSL filters are not much bigger than a matchbox and are simply plugged in between the telephone and the phone socket but not all ADSL filters are suitable for all phones and the two basic types provide differing levels of protection.Though they look almost identical, the two type are easily confused.

ADSL Filter Types:

Two-Wire: These provide the best filtering protection but some phones will not ring, even though they will otherwise operate normally.

Three-Wire: These provide less protection because the third (ring) wire usually passes straight through, unfiltered. This type will however ring all types of phones provided all 3 wires have been properly connected in the wall outlet.

How To Tell:

It is not always easy to establish the type by looking. Catalogues and product descriptions usually do not say. An easy way to tell is if only 2 of the little gold contacts are visible in the BT style plug. Some filters are fitted with plugs which have 4 contacts present, though by sight it is not easy to tell whether 2 or 3 of them are connected.

Another way to tell is if a phone will not ring with an ADSL filter plugged in, then the chances are that the filter is the more effective 2-wire type. Ask your supplier which type they have but many customer service staff are ignorant of this somewhat fine distinction.

More expensive filters may also have a ferrite choke fitted around the wire to the socket (to eliminate higher frequencies) but in many situations, additional benefits may be inconsequential.

Telephones:

To further reduce electrosmog reaching the head, telephones should be of a type which do not have electronics in the handset (the bit normally held to the head). 'Gondola' type phones, with push buttons or displays in their handsets are therefore to be avoided. Likewise, hearing-aid compatible handsets which use induction to connect to the hearing aid. Use of a speakerphone facility eliminates the need to hold the handset to the head.

Speakerphones:

Most speakerphones require a mains transformer which adds to electro-pollution in the vicinity. Some speakerphones are ‘line driven’. That is, they use power provided by the telephone exchange and are thus not favoured by phone companies. Phone catalogues often do not indicate whether models are line-driven, battery powered or mains (transformer) powered, making line-driven speakerphones difficult to obtain.

End Note:

Whilst price is not always an adequate reflector of quality, cheap (<£10) or Free ADSL filters may not be very effective at attenuating the EMR accompanying the ADSL signal that can reach the handset. The signals may well be inaudible.

For the EHS, and all who wish to minimise their EMR exposure, handsfree phones with ADSL filters are helpful.

Electro-smog - How Much Is Too Much ?

Once alerted to the threats to health, wellbeing and prospects, it is easy to get into a tail-spin over electrosmog (electro-smog) and the exposure levels to which we are all now subjected. First there is fear of the invisible and the unknown, confusion and ignorance being added to by the differing opinions and spin on the Internet and what little coverage there is in the media. Then, when it all become too much, paralysis, denial or no action at all may be the result. It can all be too overwhelming.

Power levels are only one metric. They do not take into effect the nature of digital signals and the information carried on their pulsed modulations, any and all of which may be biologically hazardous. Neither do that take account of the compounding effects of multiple EMR sources and chemicals. The recommendations of the Bioinitiative Report are good but interpreting over 600 pages when deciding whether to use the electric cooker (hob/range) or a microwave oven is beyond most people when it comes to feeding the family. (See the Bioinitiative Report page 587 for recommendations).

http://www.bioinitiative.org/freeaccess/report/docs/report.pdf

But rather like knowing how many million/billion/trillion bacteria exist in a cubic metre of air, knowing precise electrosmog levels is not entirely necessary if one is determined to keep exposure As Low As Reasonably Achievable - ALARA. Later, when peoples tolerance has been all used up and they are forced to flee or turn and face ‘The Electrosmog Dragons’ in their midst, thoughts are liable to spin out of control, whether-or-not-this-is-serious-and-if-so-how-to-best-deal-with-a-new-and-invisible-threat-that-seems-to-be-everywhere….Aghhhhhhh !

Electrosmog is indeed now everywhere. At presently permitted levels it is toxic for some people and animals, if not everyone, and yes, it can kill you in time one way or another but that is insufficient reason to panic. Mould (mold), bacteria, viruses, yeasts, mildew, germs and pathogens of every shape, size and description abound on the earth and in the air and water, yet we survive.  We have evolved and adapted. We routinely adopt good practices and habits (hygiene) that serve to safeguard us from these ubiquitous invisible threats to our health and our survival.

It’s the same with the Electrosmog Dragons. We can safely assume that levels of electromagnetic radiation are now higher than some people can tolerate everywhere we go (unless it is to a wilderness and even there, satellites and planes shoot the earth with radar). Especially where people congregate, wireless infrastructure is now in place; mobile/cellular phone signals, wi-fi, WiMax, broadcast DTV and radio - the list is virtually endless and grows every day.

There is not much you can do about avoiding the non-elective wireless stock control system in your favourite supermarket or the anti-collision radar from the cars around you on your journey there, and reducing one’s own elective exposure may not prove sufficient for some, but reducing lifetime exposure cannot hurt.

Wireless is now everywhere and your exposure to it from devices you choose is all that is in your power to control. By becoming familiar with sources you yourself have allowed into your living and working environment; smart-meters, HAN enabled appliances, wireless boiler/thermostat, cordless phone, wireless router and computer, wireless eReader, wireless games console, wireless surround-sound, video/audio repeater and on and on, you will at least be able to make choices.

And why is it important to make choices?

Because everyone’s lifetime exposure to non-ionising radiation is rising at an unprecedented rate and in forms previously unknown in the history of every living creature on this, our one and only habitable planet.

And that’s not all. The effects of ionising radiation (Nuclear / X-Ray / Cosmic) are very similar and since WWII, Chernobyl and Fukushima, global levels continue to rise uncontrollably. Add the cyclic increase in solar activity we are experiencing today and you can perhaps see why limiting exposure when and where you can might be something to seriously consider. Radiation exposure is cumulative. That means the damage over a lifetime can exceed the body’s ability to repair itself. And we all know where that leads.

Make good choices now, while you can still make a difference in your life and that of those you care about. The truth will out and the unwilling EHS - ElectroHyperSensitive pioneers are reluctantly leading the way, because they no longer have the choices you do.

Electro-Smog: Addiction & Withdrawal

They say...“Believe only half of what you see and nothing of what you hear.” nevertheless, this recently heard story got me thinking.

A woman, who regularly had headaches after each day working in a heavily electrosmoged office, discovered the way to prevent them was to keep her mobile phone and wi-fi switched on at home.
Electric Forester has already written about similar rebound effects when people are new to using bed shielding canopies. Reports from users suggest withdrawal effects are possible when they are able to escape the perpetual onslaught of electro-smog, now endemic in most everyday environments.
Intoxication & Addiction:
When a body has been ‘intoxicated’ for some time, it becomes habituated or acclimated and may demand regular top-ups.  It is not unusual for adverse effects to accompany stimulus withdrawal. This should not be surprising as external factors (chemical substances / pathogens / radiation etc.) which require the body to ‘accommodate’ them cause the body to respond with a sophisticated and complex array of counter-measures. If the stimulus suddenly goes away, coping strategies, which have perhaps been developed over time, become excess to requirements and potentially toxic to the body. To neutralise these defensive measures before they themselves turn toxic, the quickest and easiest way is to give them something useful to do and that can be to give them more of the toxin upon which they are targeted. In consequence the cycle of addiction and withdrawal, repeats.
Timing:
If the impact of the toxin were immediately countered by measures whose effects last exactly as long as the toxin, then balance would be maintained, but there is likely to be a delay in the production of counter measures as they ramp-up to respond to the initial assault. There will be a lag so that if the stimulus is withdrawn the antidote level will overshoot and exceed the required level, unless the body has some way of detecting or predicting the changing level of exposure in advance. The sneeze is a case in point. It allows the body to reject the input and buys it time to prepare. For airborne chemicals, the outer sensors in the nose send an immediate message to the brain. By the time a chemical reaches the lungs, the body is already mounting counter-measures. In a similar way, the smell of fresh coffee alerts the body what to expect and gives it, based on similar experiences, an idea of the quantitative level to expect (how hot, strong, sweet etc.) and thus forewarns the body to prepare appropriate actions to handle it.
Dependence:
If the body has been fending off attacks for a long time, sudden cessation of the protagonist can produce an intensification of alertness. It is as if the senses believe the threat is still present, so it becomes hypersensitive in a attempt to detect it. Only after the body is satisfied that the threat really has gone away, does it allow its defences to stand down and return to a more normal level.
Too Quiet To Sleep:
City dwellers can find it difficult to sleep in the still of the countryside, their bodies having become accustomed to the constant stimulus of the metropolis. There are well accepted physiological reasons for this. If the trillions of cells which make up a human body never get the chance to relax properly, they build up a toxic burden. When they are finally able to process their backlog, suddenly a whole variety of previously sequestered toxins have to be simultaneously dealt with. This is likely to be something the body will resist until it is sure it will have the capability and time to complete the necessary reactions.
A Change Is As Good As A Rest:
A new environment contains different ‘stimulants’, which in turn demand alternative counter-measures and provides the body with the chance to rebuild reserves.

Is it time for a holiday from Electro-smog?

EMR / Electro-Smog Hygiene

Adopting a few simple practices aimed at living more safely with electro-smog does not need to be onerous. As better understanding evolves, investing in a little EMR precaution today may pay dividends in the future.
No Need To Be Afraid:
Can you imagine how scary it must have been back in the 19th century when people first learned that they lived in a soup of pathogens, bacteria, moulds and viruses which they could not see and which had the potential to make them very ill or kill them? Of course many germs can and always could kill people but it usually required their immune systems to have been compromised first. From the emerging understanding that followed, people learned good hygiene and how to incorporate sanitation into their lives. Many generations have since come to terms with and learned to coexist with these little killers and now we expect cleanliness to be a normal part of everyday life.
A Very Short History of Hygiene:
Brushing one's teeth was not common practice in Europe until the end of the 17th century. Washing hands between patients did not gain acceptance amongst doctors until the late 1860’s. The benefits, indeed the importance of these things are now taken for granted and rarely given a second thought by most people as we have learned to simply incorporate good practice into our daily routines.
Jam Today, Electro-Smog Tomorrow:
If you spill jam on the floor you would normally just clean it up. You understand jam and its properties and you know how to deal with it and keep it in its place (on the toast). EMR is a bit like jam. It's amazing and does some magic things, but in the wrong places it's bad! Unlike jam, EMR is pretty much bad any time it is near us. Like the bacteria and mould that swirl in the air all around us, EMR is invisible, tasteless, silent and you can't feel it. Well at least most people can't feel it, but some, the EHS can, and do.
Handling The Invisible:
How do we deal with something as miniscule and invisible as bacteria? It is quite easy. We assume it is everywhere and especially on any surface we have not just cleaned. So when your toast and jam lands face down on the floor, you assume it to be contaminated and throw it away. It's the same with EMR. If it has a plug on it or a battery in it you can assume it is giving out some EMR, at levels and frequencies which may be toxic.
How Close is Too Close?:
In domestic settings it is usual that 1.5 - 2.0 metres away from an operating electrical device is far enough to be precautionary. But what about appliances like a boiler near the kitchen sink? If it is not possible to achieve the distance, then turn the device off. In the case of the boiler, if you can do neither then perhaps you would be better off buying a dishwasher or using water from a hot water tank. If you really cannot do anything about your exposure, then measuring to find hotspots or define zones-of-influence can indicate safer distances.
What about laptops and other devices typically used close to the body?
A laptop on the lap is like playing with broken glass. You might get away with it but it is plain stupid. As with glass, you may not notice the sharp little shards penetrating your skin until later. They are so hard to get out we know its better not to take the chance of them getting in, in the first place. The multiple types of electro-smog that come out of laptop computers impact everything around them, just like broken glass. Far better to use one on a table and then only for a limited time.
Demonstrating the levels and types of electro-smog that come out of many hand-held devices convinces most people of the wisdom of not putting them close to their bodies.
If you are, at some point in the future, like the EHS today, reluctantly obliged to accept the consequences of perhaps a reckless or uninformed attitude to the biological effects of virtually constant immersion in EMR, it may be too late.
Responsibility for the choices you make now, and the hazards you accept into your life in the future, are yours because nobody else has any idea of your electro-smog exposure. If history is anything to go by, as with Asbestos, Thalidomide, Lead and a host of other previously-thought-to-be-safe substances, electro-smog may turn out to be the single most significant factor in the Diseases of the Modern Age; Cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Leukaemia, Heart Disease and debilitating conditions such as ME, headaches, tinnitus, poor sleep, cataracts, obesity and depression to name but a few.
It is not so much that electro-smog is believed to ‘cause’ these ailments, it is perhaps more likely that electro-smog may compromise the body’s natural abilities to deal with them.

What You Should Know About Smart-Meters

Those who govern us have decreed that smart-meters are to be installed in every home and workplace during the next few years. The meters will transmit intelligence information about how much, when and what devices we are using virtually instantaneously. In a few short years they will provide real-time monitoring of everyone’s activities through electricity, gas and water use to be stored effectively forever. It is planned to transmit the data wirelessly via pulsed digital microwaves to be picked up by a 'Hub' or ‘Concentrator’ in a Street Cabinet, a Neighbour’s House or on a mobile phone or other Mast. It will then be passed on to a new central Data and Communications Company. Some places have already had smart-meters installed* but you might not know because the radio transmitters on them are presently sleeping until awakened by an activation signal.

The world is sleepwalking into an Orwellian reality!

New Canadian Exposee Smart-Meter Film

Smart-meters raise serious concerns about privacy, security and health. If the installation of a smart-meter causes your tolerable lifetime radiation dose (ionising and non-ionising) to be exceeded you may no longer be able to be near common everyday devices such as lights, TVs, computers, Wi-Fi or for that matter mobile phones, cars and public transport. Consider if you will for a moment what that means for those already EHS and what that would mean for you, your prospects, lifestyle and liberty and that of your children.
Added 28 Sept 2012
Listen to Dr Dietrich Klinghardt He makes a lot of sense.

Because of the worldwide proliferation of other wireless devices it is going to be very difficult to absolutely link adverse health effects to smart-meters. Nevertheless millions of ‘smart devices’ have already been installed around the world and it is now becoming clear that people’s health and wellbeing can be seriously compromised by exposure to these and other digital wireless technologies.

HAN - Home Area Network

The new meters will also support two-way wireless communications inside and around your home via a HAN. Many devices and appliances are now coming with the HAN system already enabled and every few minutes they check to see if you have had a smart-meter installed. Their radio links are battery powered (lasting 10 - 15 years) and cannot be disabled. Once a smart-meter is installed in your home all devices that have been bought in the last few years that are HAN enabled will lock-on to it and start to generate regular streams of data about your usage that will be sent back and forth to the utility companies and whoever else has access to the data. The HAN can also wirelessly drive a usage monitor and these handy displays are presently being given away by utilities in order to get wireless smart-meter technologies established inside people’s homes.

* Offers of cash incentives or cheaper electricity, gas or water may tempt some home owners and particularly landlords to agree to the installation of a ‘Concentrator’ in their utility cupboards or they may simply not be told they are getting a smart-meter. The Concentrator’s purpose is to act as a radio communications hub for up to 100 other local smart-meters. After a few days, a  few months, a year, a decade, if and when residents and neighbours start experiencing ill-health caused by the unremitting signals to and from smart-meters and concentrators how will they know the cause and to whom are they going to turn?

This infrastructure is currently rolling-out across the developed world enabling wireless smart-meters and wireless-broadband to reach into even the remotest areas flooding what electrosmog-free areas still remain with the most ubiquitous pollutant now on the planet.
The vast amounts of data generated every few seconds by up to 3 smart-meters in all 22 million UK homes and all other buildings and elsewhere will be a massive goldmine of very detailed real-time information. It will need a new network of Data Superhighways to collect and deliver it to Government and buyers. Next time you hear of some ‘communications infrastructure’ project taking place or are told that ‘your meter needs changing’ be alert to what that really means.

Smart-meter projects are underway now. This industry-provided map shows some of them:

Watch this video on smart-meters. Its an eye opener!

Readers will doubtless be reassured to hear that according to The Department of Energy and Climate Change, Whitehall London January 2012 "...it will not be an offence for householders to refuse to accept a smart meter and we have made it clear that we do not expect suppliers to seek an entry warrant simply to fit smart metering equipment."
An 'Entry Warrant' - what the hell is that? ...and what if the utility 'stormtroopers' should decide forced entry is indeed warranted! Is the sanctity of our homes now only protected by a 'we do not expect'?
In their justification for summarily stripping us of our domestic privacy and irradiating us in our homes using wireless the DECC defer to the ICNIRP recommendations which were never designed to take into account the long-term chronic low-level microwave exposure to which everyone is already subjected. The American Federal Communications Commission - FCC also defer to these irrelevant industry-driven guidelines but the Environmental Protection Agency - EPA, to their credit, clearly stated in 2002 "...[ICNIRP/FCC/IEEE voluntary guidelines] do not apply to chronic, nonthermal exposure situations." Furthermore they go on to say "...the generalisation by many that the guidelines protect human beings from harm by any or all mechanisms is not justified."
Safety recommendations and regulations for non-thermal non-ionising radio frequency radiation [microwaves] around the world remain unfit for purpose and are largely as they were in 2002. In the meantime wireless use has exploded.
Those we have trusted to ensure our continuing protection in a rapidly changing and increasingly technological world are not doing an adequate job. Shame on them.
Jerry Day spells it out in his very concise video and deals the dirt on smart-meters in a calm and rational manner.

Apart from the serious privacy issues there are other ways of communicating (Fibre, cable, Power Line Communications - PLC). The wireless companies have embarked on a new 'land-grab' and are fighting for market share. They are upgrading their mobile infrastructure in preparation so that it will be uneconomic for others to enter the marketplace.

Wireless is set to become the de facto standard.

When they switch it on and you cannot sleep because the burning, the tinnitus and the headaches have gotten too bad, if you can still think straight through all of that, to whom are you going to turn?

Do You Feel The Cold?

Being electromagnetically hypersensitive (EHS) is like suffering with the cold. Not a must-put-on-a-cotton-sweater kind of cold but the intolerable six-layers-and-a-hat-and-gloves-indoors kind of cold. When the cold is that overwhelming everything else has to be put on hold while the imperatives of keeping body and soul together are dealt with. When survival itself is at stake there is nothing left to progress one’s life. That must come later, if ever at all. The shakes, mental confusion, inattention, distress, worry, clumsiness and many other effects of EHS are shared with sensitivity to extreme cold.

The effects of microwave radiation on those who have become sensitised to it can be very similar to hyperthermia. Unlike strategies for dealing with unremitting cold such as turning up the heating or putting on extra clothes, nothing offers relief from microwave radiation in the wider environment. The surrounding temperature may be the same for everyone but some are less able to tolerate the cold and for them it becomes an attack. Similarly some people feel microwave radiation more than others. Based largely on their own first-hand experience, The EHS Canaries have over the last decade or so been trying to alert the world to what for them at least are the devastating effects of microwave radiation at presently permitted exposure levels.

Such is the strength of attraction between people (especially the young) and wireless gadgets that few have been able to hear these warning cries and even less have been prepared to act on them. Until people have exceeded their lifetime tolerance and become sensitised themselves they may well think this is all “a-storm-in-a-teacup”. Until then the signs that they are spending their valuable lifetime tolerance may go unnoticed.

The message cannot be clearer:

Everyone is now engulfed in man-made digital microwave radiation of a type that has never existed before. At current exposure levels it makes people sick - as yet, apparently not everyone. Are you or your loved ones in danger?
Basking in the summer sun, it is easy to forget that winter’s bone-chilling cold is only a few short months away.

The Dangers of Mobile Phone Use - Particularly In Rural Areas

Mobile phones employ intelligent power management to limit the amount of radiation they produce during a call. That is to say they reduce their transmitted signal strength during a call to conserve battery life and minimise the amount of pulsed digital microwave radiation that goes into the user. Normally about 70% of the radiated energy is absorbed by the user, so distancing oneself from one's mobile phone significantly reduces exposure, especially from the near-field radiation that extends about 15 cm from the in-built antenna. Use of the phone's loudspeaker capability, a shielding pouch or using an external antenna significantly reduces the radiation absorbed by the user.
In rural areas the nearest applicable base station can be 15 or more Kilometres away. That means the phone has to work at maximum power in order for the call not to be dropped. When you hold your mobile phone to your head, the distance from the phone to your brain is about 15mm. Compare this to the distance to the mast at say 15 Kilometres (15,000 metres). At a million to 1, no wonder then that the radiation would rather go into your head and brain, which is mostly water and fat, rather than through the less conductive atmosphere all the way to the mast.  The same mobile phone power management dynamics apply in multi-story car parks, buildings clad with foil shielding in their insulation, buildings glazed in energy efficient glass, elevators and similar places where signals have difficulty penetrating.

For the first few seconds after pressing 'send' or 'off-hook' when a call is made or received,  mobile phones use a separate data channel to communicate with masts in range to connect the call most efficiently and at an audio quality level that is acceptable. The data channel operates at full power and it is this primarily that transmits during the call setup. Once the call is connected, only then does the dynamic power management become effective. So if you must hold a mobile phone to your head, waiting those few seconds before holding the microwave transmitter to your head makes a big difference to the amount of signal your head and brain have to soak up. As we all know, the head not only contains the brain but also a lot of other useful though, for many, somewhat mysterious stuff that is nevertheless essential to quality of life. Two of these structures which everyone can see are the eyes. That is, everyone who has not suffered cataracts or other form of vision degeneration and loss of vision. The eyes are particularly high in water content.

What would your prospects be if you lost your mental faculties? What would your prospects be if you lost your ability to see? Close your eyes for just a second or two and think about the risks you are taking regularly holding a mobile phone to your head. From noticing some initial visual disturbance to total cataracts can take less than a year even if you are not especially exposed. How would you feel today knowing you may have seen the spring, a blue sky or your child's face for the last time? The size and placement of the eyes in your skull result in microwaves from a mobile phone held to your temples being ducted by the bones of the cranium preferentially to the eyes. Add to that the eye's propensity to absorb electromagnetic radiation (that's what light is) then the risk to the eyes should be of much greater concern to mobile phone users.

You could say mobile phone users appear to have been kept in the dark over risks to their eyesight.
Simply encouraging the debate over mobile phone and wireless safety to concentrate on cancer risks ignores the many other adverse consequences to which the world's 4.5 billion mobile phone users are potentially exposing themselves each day.

'Problem Children' - Abused By Electrosmog?

A few years ago I was playing with my young godson when I got an all too familiar whack in the head from a nearby mobile phone, central locking or maybe a wireless mouse in the house next door. As I reeled I was not sure of the precise device but I knew it was a burst of microwave radiation that had assaulted me. What made this particularly attack memorable was that my godson, who was about 18 months old at the time, put his hand up to his temples and got that far-away-pained-look I get, as illustrated here by my little 'traumatised tiger', at precisely the same moment I felt the impact.
This attack out of nowhere distressed us both. I at least knew what it was about. It was apparently not out of the ordinary for my godson either as judging by his expression it had clearly happened to him before. The implications of this incident are frighteningly clear. He too was electro hypersensitive at that stage in his development but he could not tell me what was happening to him somewhere inside his head as he had not yet learned to talk. His eyes said that for which he had no words "I know what just hit me also attacked you. I don't know what it is. It just happens."
I wonder how many parents would see similar pain written across the faces of their young ones if they only knew what to look for? How might any child behave when subjected to similar invisible silent apparently random attacks that they don't deserve, they cannot describe and which go unnoticed by the grown-ups who are supposed to protect them? It is not a very great leap of the imagnination to think that what may present as 'behavioural problems' could be driven by a vulnerable child's fundamental need for safety and protection.

Christmas - A Special Peril - EHS

When I was a kid, it was a standing joke in my family that by Christmas Eve I would be unwell. The less charitable put it down to youthful excitement and anticipation, though none of us understood why it was a recurring pattern I did not seem to grow out of. That was until a couple of years ago when I had Christmas at my sister’s.

One of the strings of Christmas tree lights had packed up and I offered to fix them, as I had frequently done as a youngster. No sooner had I reached into the tree than I was overcome by an intense feeling of nausea. Like a light bulb going on, for the first time in over 40 years I suddenly realised that it was the electric field from the Christmas lights that was affecting me so significantly. Recollections of Christmas Past suggested what we had all failed to grasp at the time, a time way before anybody in our family understood anything about Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity - EHS. It was electromagnetism that was making me sick and spoiling my Christmas each year.

After Christmas Dinner, we’d all settle down in the sitting room to open presents. It was our job as children to dive under the tree and distribute parcels and this of course further added to my repeated exposure. By the time all the presents were unwrapped, I was typically feeling jaded, ill, perplexed and not very happy.

Between Christmas and New Year, when everyone is playing with their new gizmos, many EHS find it particularly difficult to cope. Often they have no idea what is affecting them. With the excitement of many new things and the season’s festivities, it is easy not to make associations between cause and effect.

Electromagnetic emissions (Electrosmog) from new wireless / mobile devices, electronic toys, even Christmas tree lights may affect some people. If it is unclear why some of your friends and family are unhappy at Christmas-time, could it be because of novel forms of electromagnetic exposure?

Electromagnetic EMF Shielding Canopies

NB: Electricforester has no association with electrosmogshieldingcanopies or companies of a similar name.

Taking steps to reduce total electromagnetic exposure is now normal for many people, especially those who may be ES (ElectroSensitive) and do not want to become EHS (Electromagnetically HyperSensitive). One significant way of helping to achieve this simply and quickly is by investing in a shielding canopy that covers both the bed and its occupant(s) at night. Exposure to electromagnetic pollution - 'Electrosmog', particularly where one sleeps is especially damaging. During the day, the body is set-up for action. During the night, the body is geared for recovery and repair. Many people today experience disturbed sleep and wake up frequently during the night for no apparent reason. Exposure to electrosmog, especially at night, not only disturbs sleep but it appears to interfere with detoxification. Stressed cells are likely to have compromised metabolism and reduced ability to neutralize toxins. The pineal gland is active when light (which is another form of electromagnetic radiation) is absent. It controls production of Melatonin (a powerful anti-oxidant) which is important in the detoxification process. Night time exposure to light, or electrosmog, suppresses Melatonin production. Research into how and why is on-going but you don’t have to be fully conversant with the biochemistry to appreciate your body’s need for a good nights sleep.
Rebound Effects:
When people are able to sleep deeply in the electromagnetically sanitized environment that is created by a shielding bed canopy, their bodies heave a sigh of relief and start to detoxify properly, perhaps for the first time in years. Paradoxically, this can make them feel worse for a few days, until their bodies let go of some of their historic toxic load and re-stabilise. When this happens, the depth and quality of sleep they experience can be surprising and initially even a little frightening. So used have their bodies become to shallow sleep, that when they re-experience the deep satisfying uninterrupted sleep their bodies have craved for so long, it can at first be a bit unsettling. Within a short time however, most people come to love the new peace and tranquillity they experience in their shielded beds.

New Developments:
Domestic electromagnetic shielding canopies are a new innovation, created out of necessity and experience of using them to best effect is still evolving. People who are seriously affected by exposure to electrosmog generally need to achieve immediate respite. During the all-important hours of sleep, increasing ambient levels of radio frequency radiation are now attacking everyone and shielding canopies provide a quick and effective solution. The roll-out of mobile phone networks, digital terrestrial television, home-hubs, cordless phones and new upcoming airborne/satellite systems mean that everyone’s RF exposure is rising and for those who cannot tolerate even today‘s levels, protection at night is likely to become increasingly necessary.
However, initial relief may wane over time and growing experience of the longer-term effects of continually sleeping inside a fully enclosed shielding canopy suggest that some further understanding of their properties is needed. It now appears better not to sleep in a totally enclosed Faraday Cage every night, forever and some temporary cessation appears beneficial, at least for some, even if total protection is reduced.
One does not have to be scientifically or medically orientated to recognize that the balance of both positive and negative ions that exists in outdoor air, is beneficial. It seems reasonable therefore that any disturbance to this natural balance indoors is probably not without some disadvantages.
Air can pass with varying amounts of freedom through electromagnetic shielding fabrics such as Chromax EMF / Daylite, Naturell, Swiss-Shield Evolution, Bobbinet etc. but ions tend to be stopped. It has recently been reported that this can result in a depletion of negative ions and a corresponding increase in positive ions inside the canopy during the course of a night‘s sleep. A good blow-through of the room and canopy each day is probably beneficial for any number of reasons and room ventilation at night may likewise be helpful, though it pays to beware of airborne pollution and the possibility of shifting wind direction while one is asleep.
Ensuring that airborne ions can pass unhindered through a canopy opening allows ion concentrations inside and outside the shielding fabric to normalise to ambient room levels. One way to achieve this without compromising protection entirely is to leave the canopy open at one or both ends or at the sides. About a square foot should suffice but experiment to keep the opening(s) as small as possible - maybe use a hairgrip or clothes peg to lift up the fabric. Whilst this will reduce shielding effectiveness a little, if thick walls or other substantial structures provides some protection, then theirs is possibly the best direction to have open. Hanging a large piece of shielding cloth on a wall opposite may provide some shielding of the opening. Measuring equipment bought or hired can reveal the effectiveness of the shielding and allow suitable adjustment to optimise the configuration.
Note: Canopy materials may not be effective at shielding against high GigaHertz (8+GHz) satellite radiation, 5G or lower frequency (Long Wave KHz) signals but can still be expected to reduce total (cumulative) EMF exposure .

Multiple Environmental Sensitivities - MES - WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW

If your home-life is in terminal decline, it is important to put the brakes on. I have generally found that “Brake first - before even thinking about swerving” has been a strategy that on occasion has served me well. That way you will be moving towards disaster slower and have more time to think and take appropriate avoiding action. In practical terms for the MES (sufferers of Electro Sensitive - ES / Electromagnetic HyperSensitivity - EHS, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity -MCS, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue - ME/CFS, Post-Viral Fatigue Syndrome - PVFS) that probably means either of two strategies: Leave your home or maximise the protection it affords you. Leaving ones home is not done lightly and is frequently a matter of last resort so we’ll come back to that strategy after we’ve looked at alternatives.
1. Minimise all electromagnetic and chemical exposure you ask your body to deal with. That means things like hair driers, electric toothbrushes, electric blankets, radiant heaters and so on. The list is endless and being added to all the time so stop using anything with either a plug on it or a battery in it or if fragranced. If you absolutely must, then minimise the time you are exposed to such things and maximise your separation distance. E.g. put the washing machine on then move away at least a couple of meters (the strong magnetic fields they produce pass easily through walls and floors) or go for a walk.

2. Turn off circuits at the Consumer Unit (Fuse-box), especially heating, while you sleep. Use a hot water bottle or a triangular  whiskey bottle in a sock that does not outgas and a woolly hat if that‘s more comfortable (You are in a battle for your home, it is not about looking good!). If you must, leave the fridge/freezer circuits enabled. Learn to do without some modern conveniences or find non-electrical / manual alternatives.

3. Ask neighbours to turn off their offending devices, especially at night while you are trying to sleep and while your body is trying to repair the damage of the day. These may be Wi-Fi routers / hubs, printers or other wireless enabled computer devices. It could be a Wii or xBox360 or other games console or it might be a DECT phone, Home Hub or Sky+HD box. Plasma TV‘s and Freeview / Satellite systems too adversely affect some people. Whatever it is that’s causing your exposure tolerance to be exceeded, even if they won‘t turn it off during the day, maybe if you bought them a time clock it could at least be off during the small hours. If it’s a DECT phone and they cannot be convinced to give up the cordless convenience buy them a Siemens Eco-DECT Plus (make sure it the model that silences the radio emissions from the base station when not in use) and exchange it with them for their existing one.

4. Sleep in another room. Sleep away from phones and phone cables, whether or not you have broadband. Reducing your night time exposure by sleeping in a room with lower electromagnetic radiation is of paramount importance. How will you know which room to choose? Distance is a clue or buy an Electrosmog Detector or other more sensitive microwave radiation detector. They are not cheap, but then neither is good health. Don’t forget magnetic fields. The Electrosensor is a cheap and largely adequate magnetic field strength meter.

5. Invest in shielding fabric and make your own tent or bed canopy. If that’s too difficult, single layer pre-made shielding bed canopies are available but you may need two layers so making your own may be the best option. If you have children, don’t forget them too. Unlike shielding paint, fabrics can be taken with you when you move.

Some of this costs money but do not panic because that will not help you defend your home. The assaults inflicted on you by  your neighbours should not be underestimated whether they are intentional or not. Neither should they be compounded by your own ignorance or lack of attention, so it is important for you to find out as much as you can about common everyday sources of man-made electromagnetic radiation (Electrosmog) and minimise your exposure. For reasons that are not yet entirely clear, this situation, this battle has been brought to your door. Like rising flood water, its not enough to deal with some of it. You need to be creative and radical if you are to deal with all of it and safeguard yourself until society recognises the plight of the MES. Whether you have a technical background or not, for you to successfully beat this dragon, you will need to know as much about it and its effects as you possibly can. Research is continuing and understanding the causes, effects and biological mechanisms is developing all the time. Many good people are searching for answers even while Government, Regulators and Industry continue to deny the reality of what is happing to people across our society. In the meantime, minimise your exposure.

If all you can do is run, then invest now in shielding materials and relationships with people who are at least sympathetic and might be supportive. Only when your life is restored to some sort of normality can you afford to divert your energies to those who do not yet understand MES and who you might have left behind.

Electrosmog - What Is It and Why Should You Be Concerned?

Are you unwell for a reason doctors are unable to diagnose? Are you suffering sleeping problems? Is your concentration less than you expect? Are you having trouble conceiving? Are you more stressed/less tolerant than you used to be? Then maybe what's troubling you is the amount of Electrosmog (e-smog) to which you are now exposed.

Like sunlight, electrosmog is a form of electromagnetic radiation. Just like sunlight, we now know we must manage our exposure if we are to remain well and live a long and happy life. Perhaps like sunlight, a little is not bad for us but get too much exposure and maybe our bodies will start to malfunction. Radiation has long been known to effect genetics and reproduction. The study of epi-genetics is now suggesting that effects may not appear for a few generations. What we are exposed to now could have profound and irreversible effects on our children, grand children or generations even further in the future. Man-made electromagnetic radiation has increased enormously over the last decade and in consequence, the amount of electrosmog that we are all exposed to in our lifetimes is increasing every day. Independent research is now revealing the likely biological and physiological mechanisms by which our bodies are affected. Even though mankind only has limited experience of the health effects of digital microwave radiation, more and more people are saying when the reports from the field are pointing to a serious problem for at least some people, we dare not wait for absolute proof.

Exposure to electromagnetism can produce transient symptoms, ones from which people recover after a few hours or days, or it can produce no symptoms at all. Exposures at levels too low to alert the immune system are likely to go unrecognised by the conscious mind. Severe over-exposure can have immediate and lasting effects.

You might well ask "Aren't there regulations to protect us?" and indeed there are. However they were formulated long before the digital age and rely entirely on heating effects. The ICNIRP guidelines refered to by Governments and trade bodies around the world look only at gross power levels (and ignore other important aspects of electromagnetic radiation such as frequency, waveform, pulsing etc.). They are massively lenient by the standards that people who have become electromagnetically hypersensitive (the EHS Canaries) must adhere to if they are to survive in the modern world.

What we know now is that the cells of the body are able to pick up digitally-pulsed microwaves signals that penetrate the body and this causes them to behave abnormally. Cells behaving abnormally are only one step away from Cancer and is a mechanism that can account for many of the varied and debilitating symptoms now being reported. Cumulative electromagnetic exposure over a person's lifetime, much like sunlight, can have profound effects.

It makes sense to manage your lifetime dose, especially until more is known about the risks.

Want To Move But Obliged To Stay?

The current climate of economic uncertainty is paralysing people. Caught between falling house prices and the needs of growing families, many people are deciding to rent or to stay put. Making better use of the space you already have makes good green sense, and ‘better the devil you know‘ as they say. But staying put may not be without its own perils. How well do you actually know the place where you and your loved-ones are living? Knowing relies on sufficient information and the quality of its interpretation through knowledge and experience. If your senses don’t alert you, chances are you will just carry on, blissfully unaware of the potential spectres with which you are cohabiting.

Electromagnetism, or more accurately, Electrosmog or as it is known, e-smog is the uncontrolled fallout from society’s use of wireless and other electric and electronic technologies. It is all around us - at ever increasing levels. E-smog, just like other forms of pollution, makes some people unwell. To many it may be an irrelevance but to those who are particularly vulnerable, its invisible and silently sinister influence can be devastating. To the young, the frail, the weak and the infirm, e-smog can sound their death-knell, and sooner rather than later. Many modern illnesses, of which the public are regrettably all too aware - Cancer, Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Leukaemia and many others that medical science seems unable to provide the causes to are being increasingly linked to exposure to e-smog. Importantly, loss of sleep quality, whilst perhaps not being a truly medical condition in its own right can nonetheless have a devastating impact on people’s lives.

So before you decide to convert the loft or the cabin at the end of the garden into extra living space for your growing family, make sure you fully understand the implications of what you are about to do. Loft and attic conversions, which are frequently inhabited by the youngest members of the family, can expose people to far higher levels of microwave radio radiation than levels experienced nearer the ground, by those surrounded by somewhat better shielding bricks and mortar.

Loft and attic conversions are often above the surrounding roofline and usually made of lightweight wooden structures. Youngsters whose bedrooms are up there are likely to receive the highest daily Electrosmog dose of any family member. Give them a mobile or cordless phone and a wireless laptop computer or games console and their exposure ratchets up a couple more notches. If their school also has a wireless network, chances are there will be few moments in any day when they are not being bombarded by a significant amount of life-threatening Electrosmog.

Electrosmog, just like sunlight is now understood to be cumulative over a person’s lifetime. In other words, you can only take so much of it during your life before it comes back to bite you.

Have you exceeded your safe lifetime dose yet?

Trouble & Strife - Electromagnetic Diet

Is your wife giving you trouble? Is she rarely happy and giving you grief because of it? Could it be that its not really you that she's upset with but your Wife-i that's causing her distress?
You may not realise it, and nor may she, but WiFi along with many other sources of microwave radiation is today making some peoples* lives miserable.

Wireless keyboards and mice, mobiles, cordless phones, alarm systems, low energy and fluorescent lights, the list goes on and on. There are now so many sources of electromagnetic radiation in our normal working and living environments that some people can no longer cope. People deal with the rise in levels of this environmental stressor in many different ways. Lethargy, alcoholism, drugs, other addictions, outburst of anger and in any number of other unpleasant and often self-destructive ways.

"Oh," you might say, "you can't blame all society's ills on electromagnetic exposure."

Maybe not, but until we know how and why uncontrolled Electrosmog makes some people ill, nobody can know its not a cause or a significant co-factor.
So before you give up on an unsatisfactory marriage, take a look at your own and your wife's daily electromagnetic diet and ask yourself whether sinister, silent, ubiquitous Electrosmog isn't quietly sucking the joy out of your lives.
