145 Mobile Reassurances

or 
Whatever You Need To Tell Yourself

To operate in the world, to live easily with our fellow travellers, takes confidence. It takes a trust that whatever happens, whatever we do, we will be able to prevail upon the world and survive more or less intact. But what if that trust is misplaced and some of the things we and our fellow citizens routinely do really does put us in danger? What if how we live our lives, by our own actions and those of the rest of society all around us, puts us and our wellbeing in jeopardy?

Sometimes it is necessary to take risks. If we want to fly or drive there is a certain level of risk and it is generally understood to be ‘low enough’. If we choose to smoke or drink or indulge in some other form of drug use, then we accept there may be some unfortunate side-effects and that ultimately we may be forced to accept the consequences. Adults know these things but we become good at suppressing them and keeping them from impinging on our conscious mind’s awareness. If we could not be so selective, we would never be able to give our attention to what is really important. Children take many years to learn such discernment for themselves. In the meantime, it is adults who are responsible for securing their environment for them and keeping them safe as they grow up.

Much of human existence is spent searching for relief. Relief from poverty, pain, worry, loneliness, boredom, oppression, cold, heat - the list goes on and on but the common theme remains. Relief. An aspect of addiction is a yearning for that sense of relief. When addiction’s overwhelming desire is satiated, a sense that all is right with the world prevails, at least temporarily. Whatever other shortcomings we believe our lives hold, they are for the moment put to one side. Addiction, like denial, is a diversionary tactic to save us from having to think worrisome thoughts or recognise the inadequacies in our lives.

So what do you tell yourself about your little mobli’s emissions that allows you to be relieved to have it constantly by your side?

It is now clear from mountains of research that mobile/cell-phone users are incapable of listening to reason. In case you are in this group and your chosen mantra is becoming a bit repetitive, here are some more to choose from:

1.               I need my phone to live a full life.
2.               There have been studies but they’re not conclusive.
3.               How could so small a thing hurt me?
4.               It’s a low SAR phone so I’ll be alright.
5.               It won’t happen to me.
6.               The benefits outweigh the risks.
7.               If it starts to affect me, I’ll cut down using it.
8.               If it affects me greatly, I’ll stop using it.
9.               Its for my security. What if I need to summon help?
10.            I only use it in emergencies.
11.            I don’t use it much.
12.            I text more than I talk.
13.            I may cut down one day, but not right now.
14.            Its just so useful.
15.            Its my alarm-clock, video camera, Internet, e-mail, FM radio, media player, GPS, games console. Its everything to me…
16.            Its my life!
17.            Its sexy, cool and very useful. That’s enough for me!
18.            Its essential, I could not live without it.
19.            I don’t always hold it on the same side of my head.
20.            I mostly keep my calls short.
21.            I swap sides during long calls.
22.            I stop when my ear burns.
23.            I stop when I get a headache.
24.            I hold it lightly.
25.            I usually use it on speaker.
26.            I hold it away from my head - unless I think I look stupid.
27.            I work-out, take supplements, eat organic. I’m careful in other ways.
28.            I don’t smoke, drink or do drugs so overall my risk is low.
29.            The link to cancer is unproven.
30.            I’m charmed.
31.            Everyone I know has got one and they seem Okay.
32.            I’d be socially isolated if I didn’t have one.
33.            4.5 Billion people can’t be wrong.
34.            The Government is there to protect me. That’s their job.
35.            The FCC, FDA, WHO, HPA, MOA, ICNIRP, DECT, they say there are NO adverse health effects, so it must be alright.
36.      Billions of Pounds, Dollars, Euros, Yen worldwide do not corrupt true scientists and politicians.
37.            Scientific journals and peer reviews safeguard us from junk science.
38.            I’m glad people like Ben Goldarse tirelessly root out bad science.
39.            Manufacturers and the operators have to tell the truth.
40.            All my friends say mobile-phones are not a risk.
41.            Published peer reviewed reseach has not found a risk.
42.            Its probably not doing me much harm, but what the hell, nothing is absolutely safe.
43.            I’d be lost without it.
44.            Its indispensable.
45.            Its a part of me. Its part of who I am.
46.            I only keep it in my handbag.
47.            Its reassuring and handy to have in my pocket.
48.            I need it for work. My employer insists on it.
49.            Its not just mobile phones you know…
50.            It shows I’m connected, important, influential, worthy, powerful.
51.            There may be trouble ahead…
52.            It makes me attractive, with-it and trendy.
53.            Nothing can touch me when I’m on my mobli.

58.            I get free calls, free texts, free wi-fi so why not?

72.            People who do not have a mobile are sad.
73.            People who don’t have a mobile, cordless or Wi-Fi are Luddites.
74.            People who say they are dangerous don’t appreciate the benefits.

76.            It keeps me in the loop, informed and up to date.
77.            It allows me to know stuff before other people.
78.            What if something happened and I couldn’t be reached straightaway?

138.         If something bad happens, I’ll sue.

140.         I’ve got the best phone and the best airtime calling plan. How clever.
141.         Some people can’t take it. Too bad. That’s evolution.
142.         I use a Bluetooth headset, so I’ll be Okay.
143.         If mobiles are dangerous, why haven’t I heard more about it?
144.         What the hell. You can’t live in a bubble, cut-off from everyone.
145.         I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it. In the meantime, I’ll carry on.

If the odds of something really bad happening to you are 1 in 100,000, at the point your one and only body is diagnosed with something very nasty, your odds are 1 in 1.

Ask yourself “What are the chances microwave radiation is good for me?”

Ask yourself “How long can I expect to keep getting away with it?”

A mobile phone is like a Femme Fatale: Beautiful, intelligent, capable and deadly. 260 lifetime hours on your sexy little mobli is all it takes to double your risk of a brain tumour. How much of your brain will be lost if you are even able to find and afford someone to cut it out and what kind of hell will you and your family go through in the meantime?

The writing is on the wall. All those calls are adding to your 260 lifetime hours.

Where Would We All Be Without Electricity?


Where would we all be if it were not for the hard work of the electricity companies? The answer is clear. We would all be in a very sorry state, our lives and prospects immeasurably diminished. For some however, the EHS, their lives have been and continue to be both improved and blighted by electromagnetism.

The electrical power industries surely would not want their linesman's lives jeopardised any more than they have to be. It may be in their best interests to encourage research into the how and why of Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity - EHS. By selecting-out job applicants who may be predisposed to succumb to EHS they will not only be doing applicants a service but will be acting responsibly and with due diligence. They will also not be squandering their training and safety budgets on workers who may ultimately be unable to perform the dangerous roles for which they have been prepared. Of course there are occupational hazards involved in the work of electricity supply, generation and distribution. That in itself should not cause those involved concern as it is self-evident that there are risks associated with electromagnetism, as indeed there are around most of the powerful industrial forces that now enhance our lives.

But, can running high-voltage cables over people's houses still be justified in a fair and decent society, where treating others as one would wish to be treated is something to which we can all aspire?

Criticism of Distribution Network Operators may not be entirely fair as a lot of the infrastructure is a legacy of times past when questioning the adequacy of electricity safeguards was considered unpatriotic. The less obvious dangers were glossed-over then. Today, undue influence on policies and the media ensure the effects are just as invisible. So too is the suffering of those living with the consequences and it will remain invisible as long as denial and ignorance prevail in society.

Incredibly, new houses are still being built under power lines, a practice the Government continues to allow as it prevaricates year after year, allowing risks to perpetuate, generation after generation.

Where, in all of this, are the people we elected to represent us? Where is the honour and integrity amongst civil servants and industry members whose safeguards, we the people, demand adequately protect workers and all members of British society?
Are those struck down by EHS just so much collateral damage? Are the injustices they endure merely so much water to be callously shrugged off the backs of those who supposedly took on the role of society’s protectors?

You may feel this issue does not affect you or anyone you care about. Sufferers of EHS have had this functional impairment bestowed upon them slowly, over time or suddenly, overnight. To-date there is no certain remedy for EHS except avoidance of all things electrical. Be cautious if you dismiss the suffering of the EHS out-of-hand. In the future, you too could find yourself an unwilling pioneer and come to realise for better or worse, there is no way back to the life you know now.

EMR Safety 12 Precautionary Steps You Can Take Today

1.               Until you are completely sure it is safe, decide not to use a mobile phone held to your head. Text, use the speakerphone facility or use an air-tube headset. If you don’t have an air-tube headset, buy one because in an emergency, when you will likely have to talk or hold for a long time, you will need one. Wireless headsets inject their signal into the brain via the ear-canal and thus compound exposure.

2.               Wait a few seconds after pressing ‘Send/Off Hook’. That way, the call-setup is likely to be completed before the transmitting antenna is near to the delicate tissues of your  brain, eyes and face.

3.               If you still choose to hold a mobile phone to your head, obey the manufacturers instructions and hold the phone the required distance away from your ear (typically about 20mm).

4.               Do not carry a mobile phone on your body or near an infant’s head e.g. in a handbag on the back of a push-chair. Mobiles wirelessly communicate with their networks the whole time they are on. Smart-phones enabled as relays for other smart-phones are never off.

5.               Children, with their smaller heads, developing brains, immature immune systems and longer anticipated lifetime exposures are at greater risk from all types of electro-smog.  Be safe and act responsibly around them.

6.               Mobile phones in poor reception areas such as lifts, underground car parks, vehicles and especially planes and within insulated office blocks and homes have to increase their transmitting power. Typically 70% of the radiated microwave energy goes into the user’s head. Simply wait till you are in a good reception area.

7.               Do away with cordless phones and wireless baby monitors at home and at work. They emit a constant stream of pulsed digital microwave radiation, often close to where people and babies spend a significant proportion of their time.

8.               Never sleep with a switched-on mobile phone in the same room. Do not use your phone as an alarm clock. The first thing it does upon waking is contact its network and subject you to your first blast of microwave radiation of the day - before you are even awake!

9.               Never place a laptop or tablet computer in your lap. Never hold a wirelessly enabled device such as an e-reader or games controller close to your abdomen.

10.            Do not stay in the same room as an operating microwave oven.  Never use one to heat plates or other low-water-content items as microwave leakage increases significantly.

11.            Do not stand next to electric cookers (particularly induction hobs), central heating/hot water boilers or pumps, immersion heaters or vacuum cleaners when they are on.

12.            Unplug electric blankets and devices normally left on standby, such as set-top-boxes and satellite systems, when not in use.


…and learn what it takes to remain safe in the electromagnetic landscape in which you now live.

EMR / Electro-Smog Hygiene


Adopting a few simple practices aimed at living more safely with electro-smog does not need to be onerous. As better understanding evolves, investing in a little EMR precaution today may pay dividends in the future.
No Need To Be Afraid:
Can you imagine how scary it must have been back in the 19th century when people first learned that they lived in a soup of pathogens, bacteria, moulds and viruses which they could not see and which had the potential to make them very ill or kill them? Of course many germs can and always could kill people but it usually required their immune systems to have been compromised first. From the emerging understanding that followed, people learned good hygiene and how to incorporate sanitation into their lives. Many generations have since come to terms with and learned to coexist with these little killers and now we expect cleanliness to be a normal part of everyday life.
A Very Short History of Hygiene:
Brushing one's teeth was not common practice in Europe until the end of the 17th century. Washing hands between patients did not gain acceptance amongst doctors until the late 1860’s. The benefits, indeed the importance of these things are now taken for granted and rarely given a second thought by most people as we have learned to simply incorporate good practice into our daily routines.
Jam Today, Electro-Smog Tomorrow:
If you spill jam on the floor you would normally just clean it up. You understand jam and its properties and you know how to deal with it and keep it in its place (on the toast). EMR is a bit like jam. It's amazing and does some magic things, but in the wrong places it's bad! Unlike jam, EMR is pretty much bad any time it is near us. Like the bacteria and mould that swirl in the air all around us, EMR is invisible, tasteless, silent and you can't feel it. Well at least most people can't feel it, but some, the EHS can, and do.
Handling The Invisible:
How do we deal with something as miniscule and invisible as bacteria? It is quite easy. We assume it is everywhere and especially on any surface we have not just cleaned. So when your toast and jam lands face down on the floor, you assume it to be contaminated and throw it away. It's the same with EMR. If it has a plug on it or a battery in it you can assume it is giving out some EMR, at levels and frequencies which may be toxic. 
How Close is Too Close?:
In domestic settings it is usual that 1.5 - 2.0 metres away from an operating electrical device is far enough to be precautionary. But what about appliances like a boiler near the kitchen sink? If it is not possible to achieve the distance, then turn the device off. In the case of the boiler, if you can do neither then perhaps you would be better off buying a dishwasher or using water from a hot water tank. If you really cannot do anything about your exposure, then measuring to find hotspots or define zones-of-influence can indicate safer distances.
What about laptops and other devices typically used close to the body? 
A laptop on the lap is like playing with broken glass. You might get away with it but it is plain stupid. As with glass, you may not notice the sharp little shards penetrating your skin until later. They are so hard to get out we know its better not to take the chance of them getting in, in the first place. The multiple types of electro-smog that come out of laptop computers impact everything around them, just like broken glass. Far better to use one on a table and then only for a limited time. 
Demonstrating the levels and types of electro-smog that come out of many hand-held devices convinces most people of the wisdom of not putting them close to their bodies. 
If you are, at some point in the future, like the EHS today, reluctantly obliged to accept the consequences of perhaps a reckless or uninformed attitude to the biological effects of virtually constant immersion in EMR, it may be too late.
Responsibility for the choices you make now, and the hazards you accept into your life in the future, are yours because nobody else has any idea of your electro-smog exposure. If history is anything to go by, as with Asbestos, Thalidomide, Lead and a host of other previously-thought-to-be-safe substances, electro-smog may turn out to be the single most significant factor in the Diseases of the Modern Age; Cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Leukaemia, Heart Disease and debilitating conditions such as ME, headaches, tinnitus, poor sleep, cataracts, obesity and depression to name but a few.  
It is not so much that electro-smog is believed to ‘cause’ these ailments, it is perhaps more likely that electro-smog may compromise the body’s natural abilities to deal with them.

What You Should Know About Smart-Meters

Those who govern us have decreed that smart-meters are to be installed in every home and workplace during the next few years. The meters will transmit intelligence information about how much, when and what devices we are using virtually instantaneously. In a few short years they will provide real-time monitoring of everyone’s activities through electricity, gas and water use to be stored effectively forever. It is planned to transmit the data wirelessly via pulsed digital microwaves to be picked up by a 'Hub' or ‘Concentrator’ in a Street Cabinet, a Neighbour’s House or on a mobile phone or other Mast. It will then be passed on to a new central Data and Communications Company. Some places have already had smart-meters installed* but you might not know because the radio transmitters on them are presently sleeping until awakened by an activation signal. 

The world is sleepwalking into an Orwellian reality!

Smart-meters raise serious concerns about privacy, security and health. If the installation of a smart-meter causes your tolerable lifetime radiation dose (ionising and non-ionising) to be exceeded you may no longer be able to be near common everyday devices such as lights, TVs, computers, Wi-Fi or for that matter mobile phones, cars and public transport. Consider if you will for a moment what that means for those already EHS and what that would mean for you, your prospects, lifestyle and liberty and that of your children.

Because of the worldwide proliferation of other wireless devices it is going to be very difficult to absolutely link adverse health effects to smart-meters. Nevertheless millions of ‘smart devices’ have already been installed around the world and it is now becoming clear that people’s health and wellbeing can be seriously compromised by exposure to these and other digital wireless technologies.

HAN - Home Area Network

The new meters will also support two-way wireless communications inside and around your home via a HAN. Many devices and appliances are now coming with the HAN system already enabled and every few minutes they check to see if you have had a smart-meter installed. Their radio links are battery powered (lasting 10 - 15 years) and cannot be disabled. Once a smart-meter is installed in your home all devices that have been bought in the last few years that are HAN enabled will lock-on to it and start to generate regular streams of data about your usage that will be sent back and forth to the utility companies and whoever else has access to the data. The HAN can also wirelessly drive a usage monitor and these handy displays are presently being given away by utilities in order to get wireless smart-meter technologies established inside people’s homes.

* Offers of cash incentives or cheaper electricity, gas or water may tempt some home owners and particularly landlords to agree to the installation of a ‘Concentrator’ in their utility cupboards or they may simply not be told they are getting a smart-meter. The Concentrator’s purpose is to act as a radio communications hub for up to 100 other local smart-meters. After a few days, a  few months, a year, a decade, if and when residents and neighbours start experiencing ill-health caused by the unremitting signals to and from smart-meters and concentrators how will they know the cause and to whom are they going to turn? 

This infrastructure is currently rolling-out across the developed world enabling wireless smart-meters and wireless-broadband to reach into even the remotest areas flooding what electrosmog-free areas still remain with the most ubiquitous pollutant now on the planet.
The vast amounts of data generated every few seconds by up to 3 smart-meters in all 22 million UK homes and all other buildings and elsewhere will be a massive goldmine of very detailed real-time information. It will need a new network of Data Superhighways to collect and deliver it to Government and buyers. Next time you hear of some ‘communications infrastructure’ project taking place or are told that ‘your meter needs changing’ be alert to what that really means.

Readers will doubtless be reassured to hear that according to The Department of Energy and Climate Change, Whitehall London January 2012 "...it will not be an offence for householders to refuse to accept a smart meter and we have made it clear that we do not expect suppliers to seek an entry warrant simply to fit smart metering equipment."
An 'Entry Warrant' - what the hell is that? ...and what if the utility 'stormtroopers' should decide forced entry is indeed warranted! Is the sanctity of our homes now only protected by a 'we do not expect'?
In their justification for summarily stripping us of our domestic privacy and irradiating us in our homes using wireless the DECC defer to the ICNIRP recommendations which were never designed to take into account the long-term chronic low-level microwave exposure to which everyone is already subjected. The American Federal Communications Commission - FCC also defer to these irrelevant industry-driven guidelines but the Environmental Protection Agency - EPA, to their credit, clearly stated in 2002 "...[ICNIRP/FCC/IEEE voluntary guidelines] do not apply to chronic, nonthermal exposure situations." Furthermore they go on to say "...the generalisation by many that the guidelines protect human beings from harm by any or all mechanisms is not justified." 
Safety recommendations and regulations for non-thermal non-ionising radio frequency radiation [microwaves] around the world remain unfit for purpose and are largely as they were in 2002. In the meantime wireless use has exploded.
Those we have trusted to ensure our continuing protection in a rapidly changing and increasingly technological world are not doing an adequate job. Shame on them.

Apart from the serious privacy issues there are other ways of communicating (Fibre, cable, Power Line Communications - PLC). The wireless companies have embarked on a new 'land-grab' and are fighting for market share. They are upgrading their mobile infrastructure in preparation so that it will be uneconomic for others to enter the marketplace. 

Wireless is set to become the de facto standard.

When they switch it on and you cannot sleep because the burning, the tinnitus and the headaches have gotten too bad, if you can still think straight through all of that, to whom are you going to turn?

What Price An Orgasm?

or... Is your 'magic wand' a 'double-edged sword'?

On the last day of 2011 while listening to the BBC Woman’s Hour programme reviewing episodes from the past year I was shocked to hear the statistic that 60% to 80% of women in Britain own a ‘vibrator’ though less surprised to learn “they are not using them for flower arranging!"

As an investigator specialising in the consequences of Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) at today's permitted levels, I know that radio waves and magnetic radiation given off by such often coyly promoted devices, very close to or even inside the body, will cause high exposure levels. Such an intimate and private aspect of personal product use surely needs to be considered if the world is ever to get to grips with the appalling levels of ‘Diseases of Civilisation’ with which so many people are now afflicted. 

It would be unsurprising to learn that the average user, male or female is unaware of the potential risks. If a person carries a mobile phone and for example regularly uses a computer on their lap then the amount of electromagnetic radiation they are absorbing may be significantly added to by their elective ‘recreational’ exposure. Such devices may not actually cause cancer or other diseases but if their cumulative emissions promote or aggravate a latent disease process brought on by some other environmental pollutant, then the final outcome may be just as devastating. 

In a world now awash with Electrosmog is it time those choosing to be exposed to this additional risk factor should be better informed? 

Guidance provided by manufacturers on the safe use of mobile phones is increasingly seen as important for the protection of health. 

Might explicit warnings on the recreational use of ‘therapeutic’ devices and ‘personal massagers’ be even more important? 

It would be a shame if the relief such devices provide came at an extortionate price.

Do You Feel The Cold?

Being electromagnetically hypersensitive (EHS) is like suffering with the cold. Not a must-put-on-a-cotton-sweater kind of cold but the intolerable six-layers-and-a-hat-and-gloves-indoors kind of cold. When the cold is that overwhelming everything else has to be put on hold while the imperatives of keeping body and soul together are dealt with. When survival itself is at stake there is nothing left to progress one’s life. That must come later, if ever at all. The shakes, mental confusion, inattention, distress, worry, clumsiness and many other effects of EHS are shared with sensitivity to extreme cold. 

The effects of microwave radiation on those who have become sensitised to it can be very similar to hyperthermia. Unlike strategies for dealing with unremitting cold such as turning up the heating or putting on extra clothes, nothing offers relief from microwave radiation in the wider environment. The surrounding temperature may be the same for everyone but some are less able to tolerate the cold and for them it becomes an attack. Similarly some people feel microwave radiation more than others. Based largely on their own first-hand experience, The EHS Canaries have over the last decade or so been trying to alert the world to what for them at least are the devastating effects of microwave radiation at presently permitted exposure levels.

Such is the strength of attraction between people (especially the young) and wireless gadgets that few have been able to hear these warning cries and even less have been prepared to act on them. Until people have exceeded their lifetime tolerance and become sensitised themselves they may well think this is all “a-storm-in-a-teacup”. Until then the signs that they are spending their valuable lifetime tolerance may go unnoticed.

The message cannot be clearer:  


Everyone is now engulfed in man-made digital microwave radiation of a type that has never existed before. At current exposure levels it makes people sick - as yet, apparently not everyone. Are you or your loved ones in danger?
Basking in the summer sun, it is easy to forget that winter’s bone-chilling cold is only a few short months away.

The Dangers of Mobile Phone Use - Particularly In Rural Areas

Mobile phones employ intelligent power management to limit the amount of radiation they produce during a call. That is to say they reduce their transmitted signal strength during a call to conserve battery life and minimise the amount of pulsed digital microwave radiation that goes into the user. Normally about 70% of the radiated energy is absorbed by the user, so distancing oneself from one's mobile phone significantly reduces exposure, especially from the near-field radiation that extends about 15 cm from the in-built antenna. Use of the phone's loudspeaker capability, a shielding pouch or using an external antenna significantly reduces the radiation absorbed by the user.
In rural areas the nearest applicable base station can be 15 or more Kilometres away. That means the phone has to work at maximum power in order for the call not to be dropped. When you hold your mobile phone to your head, the distance from the phone to your brain is about 15mm. Compare this to the distance to the mast at say 15 Kilometres (15,000 metres). At a million to 1, no wonder then that the radiation would rather go into your head and brain, which is mostly water and fat, rather than through the less conductive atmosphere all the way to the mast.  The same mobile phone power management dynamics apply in multi-story car parks, buildings clad with foil shielding in their insulation, buildings glazed in energy efficient glass, elevators and similar places where signals have difficulty penetrating.

For the first few seconds after pressing 'send' or 'off-hook' when a call is made or received,  mobile phones use a separate data channel to communicate with masts in range to connect the call most efficiently and at an audio quality level that is acceptable. The data channel operates at full power and it is this primarily that transmits during the call setup. Once the call is connected, only then does the dynamic power management become effective. So if you must hold a mobile phone to your head, waiting those few seconds before holding the microwave transmitter to your head makes a big difference to the amount of signal your head and brain have to soak up. As we all know, the head not only contains the brain but also a lot of other useful though, for many, somewhat mysterious stuff that is nevertheless essential to quality of life. Two of these structures which everyone can see are the eyes. That is, everyone who has not suffered cataracts or other form of vision degeneration and loss of vision. The eyes are particularly high in water content.

What would your prospects be if you lost your mental faculties? What would your prospects be if you lost your ability to see? Close your eyes for just a second or two and think about the risks you are taking regularly holding a mobile phone to your head. From noticing some initial visual disturbance to total cataracts can take less than a year even if you are not especially exposed. How would you feel today knowing you may have seen the spring, a blue sky or your child's face for the last time? The size and placement of the eyes in your skull result in microwaves from a mobile phone held to your temples being ducted by the bones of the cranium preferentially to the eyes. Add to that the eye's propensity to absorb electromagnetic radiation (that's what light is) then the risk to the eyes should be of much greater concern to mobile phone users. 

You could say mobile phone users appear to have been kept in the dark over risks to their eyesight.
Simply encouraging the debate over mobile phone and wireless safety to concentrate on cancer risks ignores the many other adverse consequences to which the world's 4.5 billion mobile phone users are potentially exposing themselves each day.
